A Non-Governmental Organisation, Values of Affordable Education Charity (VOA) has charged Federal Government of Nigeria on generating internally database regarding child births registration in the country.

The Founder, Dr. Olabisi Adekoya took a swipe on the over-reliance of the Government on child birth’s data generated by foreign organisations.

Dr. Olabisi described the action as uncalled for and disparaging, giving assurances that the country can do better by having its own independent data borne out of intentionality.

According to her, independent data speaks about the country’s level of existence and functionality, even as it informs policy formation and provision.

While suggesting a better and concrete approach to the debacle, VOA advised governments on a Centralized system of registration.

She explained that registrations at all levels-primary, secondary and tertiary should be made available to the centralized system for overhauling.

Dr. Adekoya noted that this would promote ease and availability of data for the generality.

“It is disheartening that as a country we still rely on foreign organizations to tell us how many births in our country. It is not only disheartening it is also disparaging.

“As an organisation that is dedicated to promoting values of affirdable education, we have a strong belief and feeling that with the intentionality on the path of the Federal Government we will begin to have our own internally generated database regarding child birth.

“This is incumbent upon us to do because it informs our policy makeup and provisional ability, including our existence amd functionality as a nation.

“We hereby suggest a centralized system of registration at all levels- primary, seconday and tertiary for ease and accessibility.” She said
