Michael Sekoni is a retired Vice President and General Auditor for Emergent Holdings, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, launching disruptive technology, services, and products within the insurance industry. He directed audit and advisory services for a portfolio of 25+ companies across property/casualty, government programs, and joint ventures, generating $23B annually. Acting as the Chief Audit Executive, he advised the board of directors and strategizes with C-suite in aligning governance, risk, and compliance initiatives and programs with the vision and goals of the enterprise.  He was a key contributor on multiple committees supporting the board’s initiatives and brings insight regularly on complex mergers and acquisitions. 

As a servant leader, Michael was the audit committee chair for Wisconsin Compensation Rating Bureau & Affiliates; audit committee chair and board member of the Venture Garden Group, Mauritius/Nigeria, and previously chaired the Budget & Audit Committee, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and Michigan Capital Region. Additionally, he served as president and chairman of the board of directors of the Western Michigan Chapter of Information Systems Audit & Control Association for many years as well as a founding board member of the Lansing Association of Fraud Examiners (ACFE).

Over the course of his career, Michael has established a reputation for bringing direction in auditing, compliance, finance, fraud investigation and information systems. As a result, he is a frequent speaker at national, international, and industry conferences including Insurance Internal Audit Group, TeamMate User Forums, Local Institute of Internal Auditors’ (IIA) Chapters, Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) and Information Systems & Audit & Control Association (ISACA).

Michael is a life-long learner, earning both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in economics with emphasis in accounting and finance. He holds many certifications including Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Financial Services Auditor (CFSA), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Certified Data Privacy Solutions Engineer (CDPSE), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA), and Associate in Insurance Services.

Dedicated to building strong communities, Michael also volunteers extensively with charitable organizations such as the Silicon Valley African Film Festival, Big Brothers Big Sisters Michigan Capital Region, Junior Achievement of Mid-Michigan, and the membership committee of Michigan State University Club.
